While the Edmonton Journal reports the Oilers will lock-up Ryan Smyth in the next week or so, the length of the winger's new deal is in question. After signing defenseman Chris Pronger for five years at $31.5 million, the Oilers might be wary of committing to anyone else for that long, and the Journal hints the team could ink Smyth to a two-year pact.
Meanwhile, the paper suggests bringing back star Mark Messier to the Oilers' roster certainly seems well intentioned, but is unnecessary.
